A scanned contract that comes out sideways, a landscape table stuck on its side in a portrait report, a phone scan of a receipt that is upside down: the fix is always the same. The S-PDF rotate PDF tool turns pages 90° to the left or right (click twice for 180°) and saves the new orientation in the file, so it opens the right way up for everyone you send it to, not just on your own screen.

Every PDF you add appears as a card with a thumbnail of its first page, so you can see which way it faces before you change anything. Rotate one file, rotate all of them at once, or type a page range to turn only the pages that need it. The rotation is lossless: nothing is re-rendered or re-compressed, so text stays selectable and images keep their full quality.

How to rotate a PDF in 4 steps

  1. Add your PDFs Drag one or several PDFs onto the upload box or select them from your device. Each file shows up as a card with a preview of its first page.
  2. Turn them the right way Use the rotate-left and rotate-right buttons on a card to turn that file by 90°, or the Rotate all buttons to turn every file at once. Click twice for 180°.
  3. Limit it to some pages (optional) Leave the page range empty to rotate every page, or enter pages such as 1-3, 7 to rotate only those and leave the rest as they are.
  4. Rotate and download Apply the rotation and download yourfile_rotated.pdf. Several files arrive as one ZIP, and each can also be downloaded on its own.

Whole file, a page range, or page by page?

You want to…Do this
Fix a document that is entirely sidewaysUse the rotate buttons on its card and leave the page range empty
Fix a batch of scans that all came out the same wayAdd them all and use Rotate all
Turn a few landscape tables inside a portrait reportEnter just those pages, e.g. 4, 9-11, in the page range
Turn page 2 left and page 5 right in the same fileUse Organize PDF, which lets you rotate each page individually

The page range applies the same turn to every page you list. If different pages need different directions, Organize PDF is the quicker route, because you see every page as a thumbnail and can also reorder or delete pages while you are there.

Why rotating here costs no quality

Every page in a PDF carries a small rotation setting that tells viewers and printers which way up to display it, in steps of 90°. S-PDF changes that setting and nothing else. The page content is not re-rendered, so there is no conversion to images, no re-compression, and no change to fonts, links or the text layer. The file size stays practically the same.

One consequence worth knowing: rotations add to whatever rotation a page already has. If a page was saved with a 90° setting and you rotate it right again, it ends up at 180°. The thumbnail shows the current orientation, so check it before you rotate.

The tool turns pages in 90° steps. It does not straighten a scan that is slightly tilted by a few degrees; for that, rescan the page or use your scanner app's deskew option.

Rotated on screen but not in the file?

Most PDF readers have a rotate button, but in many of them it only changes your current view. Close the file and it is sideways again, and the person you email it to sees it sideways too. Rotating with S-PDF writes the orientation into the PDF itself, so it opens correctly in any viewer and prints the right way round.

  • Rotate before OCR. Text recognition works best on upright pages, so fix the orientation first and then run OCR PDF to make a scan searchable.
  • Rotate before merging. If you are about to merge PDFs, fix each file first, or merge first and rotate the combined file with a page range.
  • Rotate before signing. Any change to a PDF that carries a certificate-based digital signature can make that signature show as invalid, so get the pages right before anyone signs.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free to rotate PDF files?

Yes. You can rotate up to 10 files and 50 MB per task, 5 times a day, with no signup and no watermark. Pro ($5 a month or $50 a year) allows 50 files and 500 MB per task, unlimited tasks under fair use, and no ads.

Does rotating a PDF reduce its quality?

No. Only the page orientation setting changes. Text, images and fonts are not re-rendered or re-compressed, so the rotated file looks exactly as sharp as the original.

Can I rotate only some pages of a PDF?

Yes. Enter the pages in the page range field, for example 1-3, 7, and only those pages are turned. To turn different pages in different directions, use Organize PDF instead.

How do I rotate a PDF 180 degrees?

Click rotate right, or rotate left, twice on the file card before you apply the rotation. Two 90 degree turns in the same direction make 180 degrees, which fixes pages that are upside down.

Is the rotation saved permanently?

Yes. The new orientation is written into the PDF, so the file opens the right way up in any viewer, on any device, and prints correctly.

Why did my page turn further than I expected?

Rotations add to any rotation the page already had. If a page was already set to 90 degrees, turning it right again gives 180. Rotate the other way to correct it.

Can I rotate a PDF on my phone?

Yes. The tool runs in any modern browser on iPhone, iPad and Android as well as Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebook, with nothing to install.

Are my files safe?

Files are sent over HTTPS, stored in a private folder that is not reachable from the web, never shared or used for anything else, and deleted automatically one hour after your last action. The Delete my files now button removes them immediately.
